It’s Friday! The freakin’ weekend! Is it just me or does it seem to arrive more frequently these days? Like the week goes by at hyperspeed and then suddenly we’ve got another two or three days (depending on how you use your Fridays) of ankle-twisting, head-jerking and shoulder-shuffling ahead of us. Yesterday’s Track of the Day was a sweet nu-folk pop ditty to make your heart flutter but Fridays are all about donning your best social carapace, hitting the electric streets of our fine Father City and trying to survive severe alcohol intake. In the spirit of that fine pursuit, today’s Track is from Vancouver’s Tough Lovers, who meld typical softcock indie vocals with something simple to dance to. It’s not an anthem like the indie rock of a half-decade ago, but it’s got me hitting play over and over so it must’ve done something right.
Catch you at the Puma Social Club tonight for Shortstraw and The Frown, at Shikisha (the place currently known as Shikisha) for The Brother Moves On (I’ve seen good things), Beatenberg (I’ve heard good things) and Vampire9000 (more good things!), and on Sunday at Boosh in Greenside for more of the same and drinks to fight The Mighty God Hangover. Monday Morning Yoga may as well be called “Murder”.
