Sunday in The City with Beach Party & The Frown [Interview/Video]

This past Sunday saw the Another-Day team hustle on over to the Maboneng Precinct on Jo’burg CBD’s sexy Eastern borderlands, where we showed up for a gig presented by Feiyue Footwear, featuring the talents of locals The Frown, Shadowclub and Cape Town’s Beach Party. While the gig was supposed to be on a rooftop, a gas leak the night before got everyone into Black Box, a warehouse space just across the street that, I think, suited the crowd well.

We sat down with Eve and Nick from The Frown, and the entire crew from Beach Party (and a largely silent DJ Sassquatch) for a chat about their sound, the city and where they’re headed next.

The Tutus Launch ‘MNUSIC’ for my Return to P-Town

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Pretoria has never made sense to me.

What I do get, however, is why folks would want to party like drunk indie rockstars there. That’s why we were in P-Town anyway: for the first leg of The Desmond & The Tutus ‘MNUSIC’ album launch tour. Considering the night we’d had before, I’m still a little surprised we could stand, let alone dance.

But hey, when Zim Zala Bim commands it…

Over This? We aren’t [Video]

Cape Town partyharders Beach Party have just released their second video. Having recently shot into the big leagues playing shows here, there and everywhere, they’ve garnered an impressive following with their great Surf-Rock sound and that’s no surprise with songs and videos like this. The new video is for their single, Over This, and is pretty much the lead singer being, well… over this. It’s got a crazy over the top Cape Town house party feel. It’s also your lucky day because you can download all of Beach Party’s tracks right here.
