Saturday night was Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (!) night, which meant spending a considerable wad of dough I earned performing fellatio on countryfolk to return to Newtown’s premier party venue, Town Hall, and check out yet another international act that was relevant before I lost my virginity. I like CYHSY’s music, with creaky country vocals reminiscent of bands that ‘went big’ during the early 2000s and some hot little electronic doopity-doops thrown in for good measure, so I was super-keen to see them live. Hell, I suffer from the common South African affliction of wanting to see pretty much any international act (except maybe Usher) live on stage simply because they bothered to come all the way here.
There was one visiting act I actually really wanted to see while he was in SA though. After Desmond and The Tutus lit shit up with their new track “Hit The Ground”, this guy pretty much owned the show while basically showing up the headliners. Ladies & Gentlemen…
Last night, MK released the nominees for this year’s MK Awards where You, apparently, are the revolution.
I don’t watch nearly enough TV, but I was on set during the award announcements (mostly to watch the host whom I’m convinced is one of the most attractive human beings I’ve ever seen in my life. Not Jean Jordaan. The woman.) Anyway, thanks to the epic power of media releases and the internet, I was able to take a look at every damn nominee on the list and break it down for you by category, throwing out my picks for who should win when things go live on March 23rd at The State Theatre in Pretoria.
