Fashion Fung: Five Summer Trends

Jusses, it has been cold. From the magazine side, we have been working three months in advance on the first few summer issues, making me itch (in various places) for spring to come. Here are five of the upcoming season’s major trends that will send a warm beam of inspirational light through your fashion-loving heart and give you a taste of the exciting things to come.

Clash your prints

The best bit about this upcoming trend is that there are no rules. Getting this look right means coming up with a marvellous concoction of digital, floral, scarf, aztec, tribal, gridlock and polka dot prints. Go for it. Be brave. If any sort of print inspires you, you’re on the right track.

Bring on the pastels

If you’re ladylike and adorable then dish up two scoops of the ice cream shade trend for this season. You will see pastel colors everywhere. Get ready to be sick of them but also get ready to wear them.

Head on over to Club Tropicana

Go tutti-frutti, hula-esque and heavily exotic. Again, this is a print trend, but keep in mind eye-popping bright colors, work in some neon and think “holiday in the sun”. Easy.

Fancy shades

Swap your hipster-esque wayfarers and your Sandton-babe aviators for a pair of retro-inspired sunglasses. Go for an extreme cat-eye shape or robo-cop boldness. Yes, people may look at you funny, but who cares? You’re cool and they’re probably wearing Oakleys.

Make sure you’re futuristic

Metallics are back, as they are every season. This time, think sculptural sihouettes and pretty much the opposite of what the pretty pastel look is all about. Go for statement, sharp-point heels or crazy earrings.
