There’s a lot I have to say about Tim Burton’s long career in Hollywood, which has pretty much spanned my entire life. His Batman movies are hugely overrated. His best film was Big Fish, but everyone always forgets about it because it made use of revolutionary dramatic devices like color and Ewan McGregor. I’m tired of having to constantly point out that he didn’t direct The Nightmare Before Christmas, because that’s something even his biggest fans seem to refuse to accept. Whatever I’ve thought of his work before this, though, is irrelevant. That‘s because this is more than a movie: Dark Shadows is a 113-minute-long black magical curse that dismantles time and drains the life out of you.
