Ready To Fit: 25 Years of ‘Twin Peaks’

Ready-to-Fit-Twin-Peaks

In Ready To Fit, we’ll approach garment appreciation with the same level of snide geekiness that you’ve come to associate with this fine web establishment. This week Laura Palmer has been dead for 25 years. It’s an event that brought us not only reverse dancing midgets, fish in percolators and Dale Cooper’s appreciation of a “damn fine cup of coffee” but also very beautiful styling.

It’s only fitting that we celebrate the impact of the legend that is Twin Peaks as it’s still more relevant and inspiring than Cara Delevingne’s catwalk selfie.

Just like every frame in David Lynch‘s legendary TV show, every outfit was very considered. The doll-like sweet 80s lace, the racey outfits behind closed doors and the extensive check you’d expect from a sleepy lumber town all make for a beautiful play on the perceived innocence of the characters, as well as the sordid sexual tension that lies beneath. Plus the general navy and muted earthy tones finish off this Lynchian world of intrigue, deception and cherry pie.

Basically, it’s every middle class creative’s dream wardrobe.

The good news is that there has been rumor of late that Laura Palmer will make good on her promise and return now, 25 years later, as a wayward casting call made its way onto the internet. But until she emerges from the red room, you can make your way to the The Bioscope this Saturday and check out the series’ eventual prequel, Fire Walk With Me, at 9pm to see all the sweaters and bobby socks in all their glory.
