We’ll lump every other Superbowl spot or trailer together, but the Transformers: Age Of Extinction one is just such a BIG trailer that it deserves it’s own post. It’s not big in its running time – in fact, it only runs around 30 seconds – but it does feature everything you want from an action movie. There’s a robot walking slowly out of smoke, another one shooting with duel pistols while flying, and then there’s stuff I didn’t even know I wanted but now I very much do.
Firstly, let’s get this out of the way. There is a robot in this movie that has a face that transforms into a gun. Not its body. Not its arms. Its face. is. a. gun. That is incredible on a level that I struggle to explain. That was pretty much all I needed to see to know that this was going to be a very different Transformers movie. And then they threw in Mark Wahlberg. And then they topped that by having Optimus Prime show up with a giant sword while riding a robot dinosaur.
I don’t know about you, but it’s clear to me that, with Transformers 4, Michael Bay is finally getting to make the ludicrous movie about giant robots that turn into cars that he’s always wanted. Now can we talk about having this franchise cross over with Fast & Furious so Vin Diesel and The Rock can drive cars that turn into robots in street races that literally transform into all-out vehicular warfare.
