Simon Pegg’s Realer “Secret Life” In ‘Hector And The Search For Happiness’ [Video]

Hector and the Search For Happiness Trailer

Movies are back to searching for the meaning of life along with the rest of us. This new Simon Pegg movie has shades of Ben Stiller’s The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty in its story but there appears to be more to it than that. Pegg’s a charming performer so I’m always happy to see him show up in something, and the film itself seems to be going for a warmer, more “real” tone.

That’s good because I’m a bit bored of slick Hollywood at the moment and apparently so are a ton of filmmakers. A lot of the stuff that’s coming soon is leaning more toward the 70s earthier feels and themes that deal with human concerns like family, happiness, love. You know, real shit. At the same time, there isn’t a solid laugh in this trailer despite it trying to play up Pegg’s presence for that. I don’t take that as a bad thing. I suspect it just means the film isn’t a comedy at all and we’re going to get a ton more meaningful moments and heartfelt realizations by Pegg, who probably needs to diversify his roles anyway. Let’s wait and see.
