After a bevy of teasers, there’s a proper, fully loaded X-Men Days of Future Past trailer for you to watch right here. It looks pretty damn cool. You know, if this were still the only superhero movie franchise coming out to your cinema screens in 2014.
Original X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer is back and he’s as beholden as ever to the aesthetic he established for this franchise back in 2000. While his approach may have been a unique take on the superhero movie genre in its inception, it was almost immediately eclipsed by the fun, colorful take Sam Raimi brought to the Spider-Man movies, and that has itself been easily trounced by Marvel’s recent attempts. Not to mention Christopher Nolan’s Batman films pretty much doing the best possible take on overly serious superhero movies, making the X-Men franchise seem like a joke in comparison.
I thought I was being overly harsh before now but this new trailer brings very little in the way of eye-catching visuals or exciting new developments. I’ll wait and see if the whole Days Of Future Past excites me, I am still looking forward to the period stuff set in the 70s after all, but this trailer didn’t do it for me.
