Dune Rats will land in SA shortly and begin their second tour of our fair little country, most likely getting many young girls and guys stoned and drunk with them. We got a few seconds of their time to ask them a few questions about things, and we’ve also got a set of double tickets for you to win for their gig at Rumours Lounge this weekend, hurry!
AD: We know you guys are always up for new and exciting things, like traveling, new kinds of drinks, new kinds of banned substances so, any idea where that stems from? Where does the ‘fuckit, we’ll try anything once’ mentality come from?
DR: It all comes from Danny, he fucking peer pressures the shit out of everyone, “try heroin” “try this meth”, it’s just great.
AD: You’ve been traveling a lot. Every time I open up songkick or fb I see that you guys are somewhere new and different. What kind of response are you getting from place to place? I mean, not every crowd is going to be into getting stoned and drunk like you find ‘em down here.
DR: South Africa is wicked, really awesome shows!, China was really really weird, nobody could talk english or smoked weed so they just kind of starred at us. Australia is wicked, and everything else is everything in between.
AD: I saw that you guys are playing at the Great Escape this year. How’s that feel? It’s quite an accomplishment, that line up is huge and has some truly amazing artists, seems like your rolling with the big dogs now? How do you feel your attitudes are changing as you grow?
DR:We’re just heaps more arrogant, we don’t have time for anyone anymore, we don’t even like each other that kind of stuff. You just get over it. Jokes It’s sweet, we’re stoked.
AD: On that, we all know that you guys are all about fun, which is why the smaller shows that you guys play at venues like Kitcheners feel like we’re getting more bang for our buck. Do you guys feel the same? And I know you guys like to mingle with the locals after shows. So how does playing the big shows change your dynamic?
DR: It does get a bit harder to mingle at the bigger shows so we tend to just hang with the other bands and our friends rather then walk around aimlessly in a big crowd. Can’t wait to play at Kitcheners again though.
AD: With all the touring and shows, where do you guys find time to write new material. And with all this traveling and growing, do you feel like you we might get to see a whole new side to the Dunies?
DR: We just took a month or two off to write our new album in a shed at Brett’s mums house so that was sweet. I’m not sure about any drastic new sides to us, pretty much still your old mates Dunies!
AD: Thanks alot guys can’t wait to see you live again!
