“Oh no, not another music video involving a band’s live performance” is what I was thinking at first. Then, as I was watching Two Door Cinema Club on stage, I realized, that I saw Two Door Cinema Club on stage. The nostalgia hit me and Next Year, the 3rd single off of the band’s latest album Beacon, made it into my February 2013 playlist.

‘Sun‘ is the 2nd single off of Two Door Cinema Club‘s new album Beacon. It’s a pretty simple music video that makes use of Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak (made from the hair of a Demiguise, that will lose effectiveness the more the hair becomes opaque). How they got so many of those cloaks for a whole crowd, I don’t know, but it makes for a really frikken cool music video.
Track of the Day: Two Door Cinema Club – Hands Off My Cash, Monty
This track was one of my favourites that was performed at the TDCC concert earlier this year. I’ll admit, I didn’t recognise it, yet I found myself catching onto the hook very quickly and I sang it at the top of my lungs. I had assumed this unknown track was off of their new album, Beacon, but when I couldn’t find it, I started to wonder.

Two Door Cinema Club Tease New Album [Trailer]
I’m not quite sure exactly how an “album trailer” works, but Irish indie rockers Two Door Cinema Club (remember them, South Africa?) have released one for Beacon, the album they mentioned would probably arrive in September way back in the 5Gum days of yesteryear (uh, earlier this year). There’s a little tease of some of the songs that’ll feature on the album, and obviously those that attended their local gig have heard a few of them already.
What is 5 Gum?
In and among the Two Door Cinema Club social media rush last week, I did notice another conversational trend cropping up in my various newsfeeds. It was one that easily permeated the digital brane into real life and followed me around right up until the Two Door press conference:
“So what is 5 Gum anyway?”

There’s this thing international bands do when they’re up on stage in front of you, instruments throbbing in-hand, sweat rushing from every pore and the heavenly electric pallor of strobe lights flashing over their faces: they say “Thank you, South Africa”; “We’re really happy to be here”; and the one that always launches the crowd into hysterics, “We hope to come back again soon”.
