You’d be forgiven if you smashed your head against the walls of your Jo’burg apartment yesterday, all because the hoof-beats wouldn’t stop. You weren’t going mad. There were thousands of feet thudding across the tar all throughout the city for the first annual Nike Run Jozi event. The Another-Day team was there to cover the whole damn thing.
Check out the pictures and the video below.
Crowds amassed like plane animals on Braamfontein’s iconic Jorrisen Street, home of the Nelson Mandela Bridge, and spent hours preparing for a 10km trek through the city. Everyone was kitted out in glowing neon, which lit up the avenues all the way over to Main Street and back down to Newtown for the night. It was an epic event and hopefully the first of many to get the middle class suburban Jo’burgers back into the tarred arteries they’ve left behind.
Our video below takes you inside the quarter-marathon with a few interviews before and after the race, some photography from the beating city streets and a little footage straight from the “MannersCam”, worn by our buddy Tom Manners, the lead singer of local rock band Dance, you’reonfire.
Special Thanks to Tom Manners + Jess Jorgensen
