You know what your mom said about bored people being shit people (or something)? Well she was wrong and one day she’ll realize it and it will be too late (for her). Two Birds One Stone productions are throwing a series of messy Art Parties in the Joburg CBD that they claim will work as an antidote for people tired of soulless mega-clubs that none of us actually ever attend anyway. Sounds like something an exciting person who’s younger than me would think and say, and so I’m automatically more interested in this.
The parties are all themed “Raggedy Faggoty” jols with drag queens, live music, DJs, art and (I’m sure) a ton of other different kinds of sensory stimulation. Be warned, I’m gonna repeat the word “sensory” a lot below. Cos it sounds rad. With contributions from a host of artists, including STASH CREW, WITS MUSOC, ZUKO, UMLE, MSAKI, CAPITAL ARTS REVOLUTION, MUSHROOM HALF HOUR, 8BARS SHORT, PAVING THE LABYRINTH, THE BROTHER MOVES ON, THE MUFFINZ, KU BAD ESOUTH AFRICA and DION MONTI.
Here’s what they have to say about their own upcoming parties…
“Founded in Jo’burg at the beginning of 2014 as an antidote to expensive soulless mega-clubs endemic to the Jo’burg social scene, each RaggedyFaggoty Party is themed, decorated, DJed and hosted by RaggedyFaggoty’s performance Party Collective of colourful club kids, artists and fashion trannies that fill the floor with colour, glamour and energy for an eccentric experience. A camptastic rave up, a joyous mess of painted faces, glitter, dancers and tranny-queen divas!”
Sounds kiff. But I think the best damn thing about this series of parties is that they’re in all kinds of unorthodox (or just ‘less orthodox’ for all our Greek Orthodox listeners out there) venues throughout the Joburg CBD. There’s one at the Bullion Bar, another at the Wits Theatre and a final rooftop party on the corner of Simmonds & Commissioner Streets in that part of town your parents are still telling you not to check out (that’s a message for the white kids – everyone else is already there, waiting for you okes).
Now check out this video promo they did for the event because you’re from a generation that didn’t read this post…
