If we’re talking weak points, I think the line “that puppy was a gift from my dying wife” is the biggest stinker in the trailer. That and the whole idea that a stolen puppy motivates a killer to get back in the game and murder some guys. In terms of the good though, the movie seems to have a typical action movie’s sense of humor about itself, and it looks like the action sequences are going to be strong even if they’re all set in moody nightclubs like we’re back in 1999. What I’m most interested in though is the film’s use of the old trope about an old retired warrior coming back to fight a stupid kid who did him wrong. That seems to be a prevailing theme in Hollywood action movies now. Probably thanks to The Expendables and Taken. How long before that trend burns itself out?
