New ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Trailer Is Certainly Very Skrillex-y, Innit? [Video]

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer is here and it certainly does feel like a movie that was made by South African-born director Jonathan Liebesman in a post-The Dark Knight cocaine haze. Then again, what “genre movie” that’s coming out of Hollywood these days and isn’t being made by Marvel doesn’t feel like that? A Skrillex soundtrack, all the Hans Zimmer “bwaaaaahhhhs” you’ve come to expect of your action trailers, and while there’s humor in this, it certainly does feel like the Turtles are in an overly serious world. I mean, are we meant to take that Shredder armor seriously or laugh at how literally they’ve taken the name?

Nothing about this looks overtly bad. It just looks generic, which is sad when you consider that the source material is probably one of the most bizarre and original ideas to ever come from the US entertainment industry. Well, at least the resultant fame that the property received. Michael Bay‘s the producer behind this thing and there’s definitely a lot of the stuff you’ve come to expect from the guy who thinks Transformers are fun because they make shit explode. And hey, does anyone else think Splinter’s gonna die in this now? :(
