In the past couple of weeks, I’ve covered street art as well as the gif as an artform. Time to combine the two with the work of UK fine artist & designer INSA, who creates elaborate animated graffiti pieces, which he cleverly terms “GIF-ITI”.
Like photographer Romain Laurent, INSA creates his work by keeping an animated image as his final presentation in mind. This results in him painting and re-painting walls several times in order to capture each layer as a frame in the gif. As I’ve mentioned before, go make yourself a cuppa tea while you wait for these animations to load because they are so worth it.
I’ve attached a process video of INSA’s creation that he made in collaboration with John Gourley to promote the American band, Portugal The Man’s Evil Friends album. It’s always interesting to see how artists approach their work, and it’s evident how INSA doesn’t take any shortcuts. I mean, how can he? He has to paint every single frikken layer! There’s also no overlooking the finer details in INSA’s work, which also means that each layer can stand on its own as a finished piece, since people will also be seeing the walls in an obvious static form.
Check out the rest of INSA’s work on his website, which also includes skimpy fashion items for bootylicious babes.
