It’s never gonna be not-awkward to watch a Woody Allen movie featuring an older man and younger woman falling in love, is it? In this case it’s Colin Firth (who’s made a repeat visit to Another-Day this week) and Emma Stone, which together with Mr. Allen means that his new film Magic In The Moonlight is going to be about as quirky as you can get, right?
Firth plays a master illusionist and debunker of the mystical, and Stone plays a psychic who may be a fraud. He’s hired to prove she’s a liar and she’s there to be another adorable female character in a Woody Allen film. Stone’s got the comedic chops to carry this role and I think she’ll play well off Firth’s “rigid, old man” deal. He’s also a welcome addition to the long list of men who are playing the Woody Allen role in Woody Allen films.
