I never thought I’d long for the good old days of straight zef, whatever the fuck that was. Die Antwoord defined a sound and a style that took the talents of Waddy Jones and filtered them into something inventive and truly original. The fact that the music was accompanied by the surreal visual stimulus provided by Roger Ballen and Jones’ new persona’s schtick as Ninja only made it better.

Speedos, budgie smugglers, ding-a-ling slings. Whatever you call them, these tiny items of swimming apparel made it to the first Speedo-Fest in full force this past weekend. Held at Rumours Lounge to raise funds for the Florida Water Polo Club, the event also coincided with Viking Ragnarok, meaning the world ended there and we’re all just living in illusion now instead.

At age 28, being what was probably the oldest gentleman at the Alex Theatre this past Saturday night was unfortunately far from a highlight for me. From my perspective, the event felt a bit dull and lacked the vibe a little, ahem, higher alpha numerical factor might generally provide for me.

CTEMF 2014 was a monumental success. Not only was the set up well executed, sound and visuals the best they could be and logistics wrapped up nice and neatly and ready to go, but the line-up attracted one of the most diverse crowds Cape Town has seen in a long time.

So it’s that time of the month again – THAT time for some of you as well, I guess – but what I’m talking about is the monthly Boosh hosted by Shortstraw at the Zoo Lake Bowls Club. This is the event’s 20th iteration and it probably has one of the most killer lineups to date with Kabaal Klankbaan, The Vagus Nerve, Al Bairre, Shortstraw (duh it’s their Gad damned event (that won’t happen again)) and The Plastics.
